How to Select a Door to Match Your Home's Style

Painting and redecorating front doors have become a popular home decor change over the last few years. Many love the idea of switching it up and inviting new color and design choices into their home's exterior. In contrast, others recognize that there's a lot of superstition about why certain door colors are better.

If you want to let your guests in through the best door possible: here’s how to carry it through with the rest of your home’s exterior!

Greenery That Works With The Color

Many people forget that greenery and plants are a key part of the home's exterior design. Although many stop at trimming their hedges and mowing their lawns, it's a good idea to put in more thought than that. If you already have large flowering shrubs or plants: what color do they bloom? Although you don't have to get a pink door simply because you grow pink roses, it's a good idea to match the tone of the color. Warm colors go well with other warm colors unless you try to contrast and make things stand out.

New Windows That Gleam

If you update your door, it’s going to make the rest of your exterior suddenly look a little older unless it’s been recently updated. A good idea is to either replace your window trim with one of the thousands of exterior window trim ideas you can find online, deep clean them and remove stains so they look new, or replace the vinyl windows with something new that will last longer. Even though a full replacement is expensive, it will lower your energy bills and allow you to save money in the long run.

Shutters That Carry It Through

Sometimes keeping designs matchy-matchy is bad: but other times it’s campy and fun. For example, if your front door is an expressive and fun color, consider how that would look on your shutters as well. Usually, this works well with black, red, or white, and it makes the entire exterior of your home suddenly look well tied together and purposeful.

Porch or Patio Furniture

Your patio furniture can help inform what color or shade of door you get! If you go for an ultra-modern door style, it can look strange against a porch full of forestry and cutesy farmer-themed items. Consider what style your home is, what you've done to feed this aesthetic, and whether you like it or not.

You can always change your home's exterior, but if you are already happy with your home’s major exterior features, furniture can be a great way to further approve your home’s curb appeal.

Fantastic Siding to Add Style

Your siding is another great option to draw everyone's eyes towards your door. Unless your door is natural wood or has a neutral tone, it's not a good idea for anyone to use the same color as your door for your siding. Instead, aim for something that contrasts against it gently. This could mean a red door and a cool neutral gray as the base for your aluminum siding.

This siding will get close to that door, and people won’t be able to help but stare at the beautiful flow of color and shape.

If you don't want to replace your siding, another valid option is to deep clean it with a pressure washer. Pressure washing completely removes the dirt, grime, pollen, and anything else sticking to whatever surface you aim it at. You can rent one of these for less than a hundred dollars a day and be amazed as your porch and siding suddenly look brand new.

Shingles That Highlight the Tones

Carrying forward the energy of new greenery out front: you should try to gather the same tone of your door’s color in what color you pick for your roof. Although you don’t have to go as far as tin shingles coated in bright green for a green door, it’s a fun idea to get the best shingles you can find and try to find them in a warm or cool shade that works with your door.

If you already have shingles that have a long way to go, allow your roofing to decide what color door you go for! This could mean a cool-toned roof leads you into getting a blue-purple door, or warm-toned shingles mean you go for a classic red.

A New Door Is a New Change

New doors are a fun way to completely switch up how you and others visiting your home view it. You can change things by picking different doorlight sizes, shapes, or accessories you hang on it: The important thing is that your door is like the ribbon that ties the rest of your home together. Use it to create a unique look that will have others inspired for years to come.
